ellandur lake in South East Bengaluru caught fire once again on Friday morning. Smoke was seen billowing from the highly polluted lake. The cause of the fire is ascertained but the lake may have caught fire due to its high pollutants contamination. Residents living around the lake reported huge clouds of smoke ballooning out of the lake. While the authorities trying to extiunguishing the fire, the exact cause of the massive break out on the lake is yet to be ascertained. With the weather being chilly, residents are questioning the authorities as to why this is happening. They also want to know whether the civic bodies are doing their work properly and if all safety measure is kept in check. Bellandur lake is the largest lake in Bengaluru and has been subjected to harsh treatment by the industrial treatment. Interestingly, this is not the first time that the lake has caught fire. Earlier on February 16 and May 7, 2017, the lake was reported to have been choked in toxic fumes, which led to a major fire break out. Following which the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had rolled out orders on shutting down industries near Bellandur lake. In any other part of the world this would have been a shocker, but not to the residents of Bengaluru. Foam often spills out of the lake onto the adjacent road making them used to this scenario.
