At least 27 dead in stampede at ‘satsang’ in UP’s Hathras

At least 40 people are feared dead in a stampede at ‘satsang’ in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras on Tuesday.

According to police, a religious event was underway in Mughalgarhi village of Hathras district when the stampede took place. “So far 27 bodies have been sent to the Etah Hospital. These include that of 23 women, 3 children, and 1 man,” Etah SSP Rajesh Kumar Singh said, adding that identification process of the bodies is underway.

“The injured have not yet reached the hospital. Further investigation is being carried out,” Kumar said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has swung into action and constituted a team, including Additional Director General, Agra Zone, and Police Commissioner, Aligarh, to inquire into the causes of the tragedy.
