Lucknow: To protest against several clauses in Right to Education, 2009, Waqf Amendment Bill 2011 and Direct Taxes Code Bill, 2011 the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) will hold a protest meeting on July 24 at Mumtaz PG College here in Lucknow.

Earlier, the AIMPLB in its executive meeting held on June 19, at Delhi has voiced its concern over the aforesaid amendments. However, the UPA government did not entertain the representation of the board after which board has decided to mobilise support among the Muslims over the issues across the country. A meeting in this regard was held at Islamia College in Lucknow on Monday where strategy for the protest meeting was discussed.

On Waqf Bill, the AIMPLB stated that its various provisions are incomplete and will lead to further damage to Waqf properties. Besides, the proposed Waqf Development Agency is also not in the favour of the Waqf properties, rather it will harm that and also the income of the agency will be shared thus hampering the interests of the community. About Direct Tax Code Bill, the AIMPLB expressed its difference on grounds that it is going to end the concession given to the religious places, religious institutions, and charitable societies and anjumans in tax payment.

On Right To Education Act (RTE), the AIMPLB's stand is that without amendment it will not be acceptable to the community because it will take away the right of the minority institution to offer religious education and teaching of mother tongue.
"We demand that the madarsas and minority institutions should be exempted from the RTE Act 2009," said AIMPLB's Executive Committee (EC) member, Zafaryab Jilani on Monday.

Jilani also stated that a series of protest meetings will be held across the country including Lucknow over these issues after the month of Ramdhan by AIMPLB. "We will expose the UPA government which is trying to harm the interests of the Muslims through these bills," he said.
