Bhatkal: After weeks of weak rainfall and growing concerns over a prolonged dry spell, monsoon showers returned to several parts of Coastal Karnataka on Sunday, bringing much-needed relief to residents and the farmers.
Rainfall was reported from various locations across the coastal belt, including Bhatkal, Mangaluru, Udupi, Honnavar and Karwar. The change in weather conditions ended a period of hot and humid conditions that had prevailed across the region in recent weeks.
The revival of monsoon activity comes after forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated favourable conditions for an increase in rainfall. Weather experts have attributed the development to the strengthening of rain-bearing systems over central parts of the country, which are expected to enhance rainfall activity in several regions over the coming days.
According to meteorological forecasts, significant rainfall is likely in parts of central India, including Chhattisgarh, eastern and western Madhya Pradesh, and the Vidarbha region between June 19 and June 25. These areas had also been experiencing rainfall deficiency and rising temperatures in recent weeks.
Southern states are witnessing a similar improvement in monsoon conditions. Several parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal have already been receiving rainfall, while the coastal districts of Karnataka have begun experiencing widespread showers.
The weather department has predicted further rainfall activity along the Karnataka coast during the next few days, with some places likely to receive heavy showers. Rainfall is also expected to increase across parts of north interior and south interior Karnataka.
The return of monsoon rains has come as a major relief for farmers, particularly those preparing for paddy cultivation and other seasonal agricultural activities. Agricultural experts note that continued rainfall in the coming days will help improve soil moisture, support sowing operations and contribute to replenishing water sources.
Residents, who had been struggling with heat and humidity during the recent dry spell, also welcomed the change in weather. With forecasts indicating sustained rainfall activity, hopes are rising for a more favourable agricultural season and improved water availability across the region.
