Bhatkal: Senior police officials from the state and regional levels visited Bhatkal to review the law and order situation in the wake of recent incidents reported in the town.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R. Hitendra and Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Amit Singh held a meeting with senior police officers and reviewed policing measures in the area.
During the meeting, the ADGP sought details on the functioning of both Town and Rural police stations and directed officers to treat any development that could disturb public peace and communal harmony with utmost seriousness.
He instructed officers not to allow any individual or organisation to take the law into their own hands and stressed that prompt legal action should be taken against attempts to create tension in society. Those found violating the law should face strict action without any bias or favoritism, he said.
The officers were also directed to closely monitor misinformation, rumours and provocative content being circulated on social media. The ADGP emphasised the need to further strengthen intelligence gathering mechanisms to identify potential threats to peace and public order at an early stage.
He further advised police personnel to enhance the beat policing system to instil a greater sense of security among residents. Continuous surveillance and effective patrolling in sensitive areas should be ensured, he said.
The meeting was attended by Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police M. N. Deepan, Additional Superintendent of Police M. Krishnamurthy, Bhatkal DySP Girish B. and officers from various police stations in the district.
