Bhatkal, October 10: The recent escalation of tensions between Hamas and Israel, involving paraglider attacks, has plunged the region into a state reminiscent of a dreadful war. Disturbingly, over 40 individuals from Bhatkal and its neighboring areas find themselves among the Indians currently trapped inside Israel.
Sources indicate that these Bhatkal residents, who are in Israel for employment, have managed to maintain phone contact with their families back home, reassuring them of their safety. Additionally, they have established communication with the Indian Embassy in Israel. However, the uncertainty regarding Israel's declaration of an official war and the potential escalation of the situation has left the families of those trapped individuals worried.
The residents from Bhatkal in Israel primarily work as caregivers for the elderly in local households. Given that a significant portion of the Israeli youth undergoes mandatory military training, many are engaged in military service. Consequently, foreigners, particularly Indians, are employed to look after the elderly parents in these households, as per Israeli regulations.
Among the affected individuals, 12 people hail from the Mundali area, and 29 individuals hail from Murdeshwar. Helen Gomes, the mother and sister of Sunil and Dolphy Gomes, residents of Murdeshwar Church Cross, confirmed that both Sunil and Dolphy are safe and were contacted via video call. They are employed in domestic roles in Israel. The Indian Embassy has issued strict instructions, urging these individuals not to venture outside unnecessarily, emphasizing their safety amid the escalating conflict.
As the situation remains volatile, families back in Bhatkal anxiously await the return of their loved ones, hoping for a resolution to the conflict and the safe repatriation of their family members from war-torn country.
