12 killed in Thane building collapse

Twelve people were reported killed after a building in Thane (west) collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday. Seven people were injured in the incident. The building, Krishna Niwas, in B Cabin area close to Thane railway station had its third floor occupied by five families. Two other floors were vacant and the ground floor had commercial establishments. Officials said the building came crashing down around 2:00 am. Local residents informed the fire brigade and Thane police. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was contacted, and a team of 50 NDRf personnel and two sniffer dogs reached the spot.
