Tension grips Kalladka again; Six injured, vehicles damaged

Mangalore, June 30:(CD Network) Tense atmosphere prevailed across the town of Kalladka in Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday evening after a group of miscreants waylaid a mini lorry for alleged cow trafficking and brutally assaulted its driver.
The police resorted to a baton charge when the minor incidence led to a major group clash within a few minutes. There were reports of injuries and damages from various places in and around the town.
The fresh trouble began when a group of miscreants belonging to Hindutva outfit intercepted the vehicle carrying cattle in the upper town.
It is learnt that when the driver stopped the vehicle, a motorcyclist among the miscreants, in an apparent bid to ignite the clash, rammed into it. When the miscreants were thrashing the driver, another group intervened and confronted the assailants.
The news, which spread like a wildfire, set the rumour mills running and triggered violence in different parts of sensitive town.
The shops in upper town and lower town of Kalladka were shut down immediately. Meanwhile, separate groups of miscreants added fuel to the fire by waylaying some vehicles in different parts of the town and attacking individuals.
Sources said that at least six people were injured and ten vehicles damaged in the town by 10:00 pm. Few shops were also damaged due to stone pelting.
When the jurisdictional police failed to bring the situation under control additional police from Puttur, Vittla and Mangalore were sent to Kalladka.
Senior police officials including Dakshina Kannada SP Abhishek Goyal and Puttur ASP Anuchet are camping in the area.
