Murin Katte row: APCR seeks intervention over alleged detention of minors after Bhatkal tension

Bengaluru/Bhatkal, May 27: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) The Karnataka chapter of Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has urged the Karnataka State Minorities Commission to ensure that minors and innocent youths are not unnecessarily detained or harassed in connection with the recent tension reported in Bhatkal.

 

In a representation submitted to the Chairman of the Karnataka State Minorities Commission, APCR Karnataka Secretary Syed Akmal Razvi stated that the organisation had been receiving complaints alleging that several minors and youths not involved in the incidents were being picked up by police.

 

The organisation appreciated the immediate intervention of the Commission and also commended the police for bringing the situation under control quickly.

 

At the same time, the letter stated that those responsible for the violence should be dealt with strictly in accordance with law.

 

Referring to the upcoming Bakrid festival in Bhatkal, APCR said there was fear and anxiety among sections of the local community and requested authorities to ensure that innocent persons were not subjected to unnecessary action.

 

The organisation appealed to the Commission to take steps for the release of minors and innocent youths at the earliest wherever no involvement in unlawful activities is found.
