Monsoon likely to reach coastal Karnataka around June 4

Mangaluru, May 29: According to the current forecast of the meteorological department, rainfall intensity in the coastal districts is likely to reduce temporarily from Friday. The southwest monsoon is expected to enter the state around June 4.

The coastal districts are currently continuing to experience high temperatures. The average maximum temperature in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts is ranging between 34 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is hovering around 25 degrees Celsius to 27 degrees Celsius. Due to high humidity levels, people are experiencing intense heat and discomfort.

According to the meteorological department, the low-pressure circulation that had formed over the Bay of Bengal is currently weakening. As a direct result, even if the monsoon winds enter the state on June 4, they are likely to remain weak during the initial phase.
 

However, the weather department has shared another important update for coastal residents. Due to the strengthening of the Somali Jet Stream, strong westerly winds from the Arabian Sea towards coastal Karnataka are expected during the second week of June. As a result, there is a strong possibility of heavy rainfall across the coast from the second week of June onwards.

Due to changes in atmospheric circulation over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, along with the influence of the Somali Jet Stream, wind speeds over the sea are likely to increase.

With the expected onset of the monsoon during the first week of June, sea waves are also likely to intensify. Fishermen venturing into deep-sea fishing have been advised to strictly follow weather department warnings and monitor local wind conditions before heading out to sea.
