Man hacked to death inside hotel near Mundgod bus stand; three teams formed to trace assailants

Karwar: A 38-year-old man was murdered by a group of armed attackers inside a hotel opposite the Mundgod bus stand on Friday night.

 

The deceased has been identified as Zameer Ahmed Dargawale alias NMD, a resident of Nooranigalli.

 

According to police, the incident took place at around 11 pm when Zameer had come to the hotel along with a friend. A group of three to four persons allegedly barged in suddenly, threw chilli powder into his eyes and stabbed him in the neck with a knife.

 

Police said Zameer tried to escape the assault but collapsed inside the hotel kitchen, where he died.

 

Sources said Zameer had been kidnapped around one-and-a-half years ago and was later rescued in a police operation.

 

As news of the murder spread, hundreds of people gathered near the bus stand past midnight, creating tension in the area. Police had to work hard to bring the situation under control.

 

Geetha Patil and Superintendent of Police Deepan M.N. visited the spot and inspected the scene.The body has been shifted to Karwar for postmortem examination.

 

Police said three special teams have been formed to trace the accused. The SP added that the deceased had five cases registered against him, including a betting-related case.
