Bhatkal, April 23: The Bhatkal Rural Police have arrested a man accused of slaughtering a pregnant cow and discarding its fetus by the riverbank in Kokner, which falls under the Heble Gram Panchayat limits. The accused has been identified as 45-year-old Hawwa Ibrahim, who is said to be a repeat offender in cow theft and slaughter cases.
According to the police, Ibrahim is a known name in such crimes, with as many as nine previous cases registered against him related to cattle theft and illegal slaughter. The latest case came to light after locals reported the disturbing sight of a fetus lying near the river. Investigations led the police to Ibrahim's residence.
During the search operation at his house compound, police found evidence of freshly slaughtered cattle and an attempt to destroy the remains by setting them on fire. The skin of the cow, believed to have been killed recently, was recovered from the site. Police allege that Ibrahim has been involved in buying stolen cattle, slaughtering them in his compound, and selling the meat illegally.
Following his arrest, Ibrahim was produced before the court, which has remanded him to judicial custody.
