Byndoor: Three killed, several injured as tourist bus crashes into parked tanker near Trasi beach

Byndoor, Apr 29: Three persons were killed and several others sustained injuries after a tourist bus rammed into a tanker on the National Highway near Trasi beach in Byndoor taluk on Wednesday, April 29.

The deceased including the bus cleaner and a cooking assistant have been identified as Raghu, Ranganath and Hemanth. The bus was travelling from Murudeshwar towards Udupi when it collided with a tanker parked by the roadside. The impact of the crash was severe, leaving many passengers injured, some of them critically.

The bus was carrying around 61 passengers, reportedly final-year BCom students from Shankarghatta Rambhapuri College in Shivamogga district, who were on a three-day coastal tour along with their lecturers and supporting staff.

The bus, which was heading from Byndoor towards Udupi, lost control and rammed into a tanker and a lorry parked on the roadside. The impact of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely crushed. The bus cleaner and a cooking assistant died in the incident, while a student sustained serious injuries. 

The bus driver also is reportedly, critically injured.

 The victims, after staying in Honnavar the previous night, they had set out towards Udupi on Wednesday. The accident occurred shortly after they resumed their journey from Maravanthe, where they had stopped to visit the beach. A total of 54 students, four lecturers, two cooks, and a cleaner were on board the bus. Local residents rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and assisted in rescue operations. The injured were shifted to a hospital in ambulances. Several of the injured are said to be in serious condition. 

Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole and other leaders visited the accident site. MP B Y Raghavendra gathered information about the incident over the phone. Superintendent of police Hariram Shankar, along with the ASP and a team from Gangolli police station, also visited the spot.
