ProjMngt A project manager is only considered to be successful when his project is monitored systematically and in real time by the team resources/members. According to experts, without real-time monitoring, a project might fail to reach its finishing line. This monitoring is often done manually as well as through the help of proprietary software in an organisation. The key to a successful project management is undoubtedly to drive the workforce or the resources involved in the project, well. Even if the organisation has more than the required number of employees to be assigned for different projects at a time, only an advanced planning of resources and the correct usage of their skills along with the  mapping of the entire project can give a positive end result. It’s important to track the progress of a given project from time to time. Here are some useful tips on how an employee can track his/ her progress in an assigned project:
  • Organise your work
  • Manage your activities well
  • Track your progress in real time
  • Keep the plan shared among the stakeholders
  • Report anything out of track immediately to your supervisor
  • Escalate delay factors in real time
Tracking progress in real time is by far the most crucial part, when it comes to the handling of a project. According to Amit Dasgupta, Director - Product Solutions, Kovair Software Inc., “It’s necessary that whoever is involved in a project, also knows what is happening, and at what frequency. If someone who has been allotted a task and given eight hours to complete, it is expected that he/ she would finish it within the stipulated time frame. By keeping a real-time track of the consumed time and time remaining, a resource can make a fair judgment as to how much more time he/ she would take. Also, if this tracking is not in real time, then the supervisor comes to know about the delay much later – and by then it becomes impossible for him to bring things on track.” Besides looking at the progress, there are few other things which employees involved in a project can keep a track of. Dasgupta adds some of the project management offering below:
  • Real-time monitoring of resource availability
  • Provision for creating and maintaining schedules
  • Interlinking of schedules
  • Booking and tracking timesheet entry
  • Ability to track planned v/s actual
  • Tracking real-time progress
  • Available anytime anywhere
By having a system in place, not only a project is managed well by the assigned team members, it is also completed within the allotted time. In case if there’s an over usage of a given resource, a project manager can quickly use a shared resource temporarily. By using some or all the above mentioned tips, an employee can ensure an efficient work flow in a project and thereby finish it well on time. TechGig
