Youth allegedly beaten by cop; locals protest in front of police station

October 01, 2015 | Rizwan Gangavaly | Bhatkallys News Bhatkal: A 22-year-old youth, identified as Rehan Zakariya Shabandari (22), sustained injuries after he was allegedly beaten up by a cop at Bhatkal police station. The locals of the area protested Wednesday evening in front of the police station and appealed to Majlise Islah Wa Tanzeem to initiate legal action against the cop. The youth was called at the police station to submit vehicle documents but when he reached the police station he was allegedly beaten up by a cop, the locals said. Rehan, however said that all his documents were valid. In this connection, when Tanzeem members enquired regarding the incident, the officers called the charge as baseless. Meanwhile Rehan was provided first-aid treatment at Government Hospital in Bhatkal and later shifted to a private hospital in Kundapur. -ARF
