World No Tobacco Day observed in Bhatkal

Bhatkal: Campaigns of a varied kind marked the observance of World No-Tobacco Day in different parts of the world on Friday. In Bhatkal too Health Department officials organized an awareness rally to mark this day.
The rally started from Bhatkal Government Hospital with Health Department officials displaying banners and Play cards against the multiple adverse effects of tobacco. It then marched towards Shamsuddin Circle, turned towards Sagar Road and finally concluded at Government Hospital. On this occasion, Dr Prakash Kamat, Dr Manjunath Shetty, Dr. Shivanand Hegde, etc were present.
World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is observed around the world every year on May 31. It is intended to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption across the globe. The day is further intended to draw global attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects, which currently lead to 5.4 million deaths worldwide annually.
