Woman dies two days after delivering baby at Bhatkal Government Hospital; family demands investigation

Bhatkal 1 November 2019: A patient who delivered a baby at Bhatkal Taluk Government Hospital on Tuesday passed away suspiciously on Thursday. The incident has irked family members of the victims who have now demanded an investigation into the matter against the hospital staffs. The deceased postpartum woman has been identified as Malati Achari (35), a reisdent of Shiroor. Alleging medical negligence on the part of hospital the family members of the victim and locals rushed to government hospital here and expressed their anguish over the matter. The woman who had come to her maternal home for delivery was admitted to hospital on October 29 after which she delivered baby girl on the same day. Malati died all of a sudden on Thursday. Bhatkal Town Police SI Hanumanth Kudagunti rushed to government hospital and convinced people of conducting fair investigation in the matter. The body of the Malati was then sent to Manipal for post-mortem. Commenting on the matter AMO of Bhatkal Government Hospital, Dr. Savita Kamat said, "It is not immediately known how the patient died. It is unfortunate and post-mortem will reveal more details about the case." A case has been registered at Bhatkal Town Police station.
