Woman dies by suicide in Bhatkal; sister files complaint

Bhatkal: A 36-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at her residence in the Mankuli area of Bhatkal on Sunday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Roopa Pundalik Pai (36). According to preliminary information, she had reportedly been in frequent telephonic contact with a man over the past two months. Police said this is believed to have led to marital discord between her and her husband.

Roopa’s sister, Smita Manjunath Hegde of Karkala, has lodged a complaint alleging that a person identified as Ravichandra Naik was responsible for her sister’s death. She has sought a detailed investigation and strict action in the matter.

The body has been shifted to Manipal Hospital for post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered at the Bhatkal Town Police Station. The investigation is being carried out under the supervision of Inspector Divakar.
