Bhatkal: October 17, 2020 (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Elections for the post of President and Vice President of Bhatkal Municipal Council will be held on October 22 for which General Category has been selected this year. Although the nomination forms for the candidates for this election are to be filled on October 22 between 10 am and 11.30 am, but before that there are a few well-known names in the race of candidates in Bhatkal who have considerable experience in this field. Bhatkal Municipality is represented by 23 councilors, out of which all except four have become councilors with Tanzeem backing. Elections to the post of the President and Vice President are voted for by these councilors. If Tanzeem decides on councilors for the post of President and Vice President then there is a strong possibility of these candidates getting the respective posts in the upcoming elections. In the past, it has been observed that a meeting of the administration and councilors is usually held in Tanzeem one day before the elections in which a person is selected for these posts by voting, after which the Majlis-e-Islah-o-Tanzeem decides on that candidate. According to reports so far, the names that are emerging for these posts are of Mr. Kashimji Pervez who has twice been the President of Bhatkal Municipality. Mr. Altaf Kharuri, former General Secretary, Majlis-e-Islah-o-Tanzeem is also considered a strong contender, having served as Municipal Councilor for 20 years and General Secretary of Majlis-e-Islah-o-Tanzeem for seven years. A third candidate expected in the fray is Mr. Abdul Rauf Naite, having served as a councilor and standing committee chairman for the municipality. The name of Mr. Qaisar Mohtisham, who is doing his best in his ward by becoming a municipal councilor, is also being mentioned among the possible candidates for the presidency. Abdul Azeem Mohtisham and Ismail Imshad, who were elected councilors for the first time, are also participating for the Vice-Presidential post. This time 9 Muslim women have also been elected Municipal Councilors for the first time in which many experienced teachers are also present and they are also front in social services. It is said that one of them could be selected for the post of Vice President.
