Dubai : Dubai drivers can cash in on their good driving under the white points reward scheme which will continue next year, said a top police official on Sunday.
Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police chief, said a total of 1,000 motorists who don’t commit traffic violations in any of the emirates will be eligible to win a brand new car from Dubai Police in addition to other valuable prizes.
At a press conference held at Dubai Police headquarters Lt Gen Dahi said the white points reward scheme will encourage motorists to adhere to traffic rules.
Lt Gen Dahi signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mohammad Khalaf Al Habtoor, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Habtoor Group, who sponsored the white point rewards last year and will continue sponsorship for the next two years.
He said the police initiative that rewards good drivers with gift vouchers and the opportunity to cancel their black points has been launched in cooperation with Al Habtoor Group.
Under the white points system 1,000 drivers of vehicles registered in Dubai will win a point for each month they keep a clean traffic record without any fines.
“The white points scheme is aimed at encouraging well-behaved motorists to adhere to the traffic rules,” said Maj Gen Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Head of the Dubai Police Traffic Department. “At the same time it will provide a motivation for others to become good drivers.”
He said drivers eligible for the rewards will receive a text message.
Drivers who have accumulated 24 black points in one severe traffic violation will not be allowed to acquire any white points for a year.
Maj Gen Al Zafein said the white points system collects the data of motorists and the white points winners will be announced at the beginning of February next year.
He said people with valid driving licences issued from Dubai and those with one or more Dubai-registered vehicles in their names which they drive themselves will benefit from the white points system.
Other conditions
“Other conditions to be eligible for the white points system include not having any traffic violation on the driver’s licence or the vehicle registered in the name of the driving licence holder during the year — that includes Salik fines, parking fines, or any traffic fines in other emirates,” he said.
Maj Gen Al Zafein said each eligible person can collect a total of 24 white points a year, one for each month. One white point will be credited at the end of each month. A motorist loses his entitlement to the month’s point if he or she is involved in any kind of accident or violation during that month.
