Voluntary bandh called against Tipu Jayanti in Kodagu on Nov 10

Madikeri: The Anti-Tippu Jayanthi Action Committee has called for a voluntary Kodagu bandh on November 10 – the day of the Tipu Jayanthi celebration. The committee would hold a protest today (Thursday) at Somwarpete and Virajpet and submit memorandums to Tahsildars requesting the government to cancel Tipu Jayanti celebration. Addressing press persons here on Wednesday, November 7 the committee members informed that a district-level protest with regard to Tipu Jayanti will be held on Friday, November 9 and a peaceful protest will be held on Saturday, November 10. The committee member further said that Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy had earlier said if JD(s) came to power he would cancel the Tipu Jayanthi fete, but now the CM of the state has failed to keep his words. The committee has already appealed to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bus, Vehicles, Auto Owners Association, various organizations and general public to extend their support to the bandh.
