Karwar: 21 March,2025 (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police Narayan M has issued a stern warning against betting on Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, stating that legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in such activities.
In a tweet on Thursday, the SP urged the public to refrain from betting and requested citizens to report any information regarding betting networks to the police via the Public Eye WhatsApp helpline at 8277988311.
Along with the tweet, the SP also shared a video emphasizing that sports should be enjoyed as games and not misused for betting. He highlighted that in the past three years, police in Uttara Kannada have registered nine cases related to IPL betting and arrested 14 individuals. The crackdown, he assured, will continue this year as well.
He further cautioned that both online betting through apps and in-person betting rings would be dealt with strictly, and offenders would face legal consequences. Stressing the negative impact of gambling, he noted that betting not only causes severe financial losses but also takes a toll on a person's mental well-being.
The SP urged the public to stay away from betting activities and report any suspicious betting networks to help curb the menace in the district.
