The protest was led by the officials of Uttara Kannada’s Naval fisheries Organisation Sadhananda Harikanth, Sudhakar Thari, and Somayya Harikanth.
Sadhananda Harikanth, the president of the organization, while speaking at the DCs office referred to the Central Govt. order issued on Nov 10 banning the floodlights fishing in all the states, but alleged that it was still being practiced in several places in Coastal Karnataka.
If the practice of Bull trawling and floodlight fishing is still active in the Coastal Karnataka as said by Harikantha, it indeed possess a threat to the several species of the fishes which will get extinguished in near future and can result in the fishermen bearing the cost for it.
