Uttara Kannada district admin bans tattoo shops during religious fairs

Karwar: The Deputy Commissioner has imposed a ban on opening tattoo stalls during the religious fairs and religious annual events in the district, citing that such stalls do not adhere to rules and may contribute to spread of HIV. DC Dr Harish Kumar has said that the needles used by these stalls are reused many times, which can be a major carrier of the dreaded condition. The youth are very often seen flaunting a tattoo and the stalls during such fairs see an outstanding response. Keeping in mind the popularity of the tattoo stalls and the possibility of these tattoo centres becoming a reason for the spread of HIV, the district administration has taken this step.
