Uttar Kannada District grapples with water scarcity

Bhatkal - 15 April 2012: Several parts of Uttara Kannada district is witnessing water shortage as a result of hot summer. Due to this, people have to visit far places to get a bucket of water. Addressing this issue, State Education minister and district in-charge minister Mr Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri said that the Govt is very serious about this and we have instructed concerned Tahsildars to take immediate steps for the supply of water to the affected areas. He said that presently we are supplying water to 120 villages with the help of tankers.

In Bhatkal the places like Mavin Kurve, Talgod, Belni etc which were worst affected are closely monitored by the Tahsildar office and around 15000 liters of water is supplied on a daily basic to these areas. Bhatkal Tahsildar, Dr Madhukeshwar will soon carry out a detailed survey in other areas like Mundalli, Belke and Yeludikoru gram panchayath and adequate arrangements will be made for the supply of water to these places.
