Pheonix: A woman, who has been in coma for over a decade, became pregnant and gave birth to a healthy baby boy in Arizona, the United States. The incident has sparked a sexual abuse investigation in the Hacienda Healthcare facility where she had been admitted. Caretakers from the facility were reportedly unaware that the woman was pregnant, until shortly before she was due to give birth. A nurse realized that the patient was in labour only when she heard her moaning, reports NBC. The baby was born on December 29. The mother, who has been in a vegetative state for fourteen years now, had suffered brain damage after nearly drowning in an accident. The woman required 24-hour care, which meant many of the hospital staff had access to her room. In an official statement, Hacienda Healthcare said: "We have recently become aware of a deeply disturbing incident involving the health and safety of a Hacienda resident. As an organisation, Hacienda Healthcare stands fully committed to getting to the truth of what, for us, represents an unprecedented matter," Hacienda has had a history of multiple sexually abusive incidents. It has a one-star rating on Medicare.gov - an official database for ranking government healthcare facilities. In December 2013, the facility nearly lost its Medicare funding after reports found that at least one staff member was abusive to multiple patients. One staff member had even been fired for repeatedly making inappropriate sexual comments to the patients. Source: Times Now
