Unknown assailants shoot BJP leader R.N. Naik in Ankola

Ankola :There was shock in Ankola on December 21, Saturday when a local BJP leader and mining businessman R.N.Naik was shot dead by four men near the Ankola bus stand. One of the assailants was killed by the gun man of the BJP leader.
The incident took place as Naik came out of his office and stepped into his car. The assailants fired at his car and the bullet pierced through the windshield and hit Naik in his chest. Though Naiks gunman fired back, he could manage to gun down only one of the assailants while another was captured by the public who gathered around. Two others however escaped from the spot.
Naik had died by the time he was rushed to the hospital, His gunman was also injured.
The suspicion is that underworld dons were behind the killing. It is learnt two of the assailants were from Varanasi. It has also been gathered that the car of the assailants has been found by the police.
Senior police officials are in Ankola and the police have spread a dragnet to nab the remaining two assailants.
Shops in Ankola downed their shutters following the incident.
