Udupi: Two youngsters electrocuted to death at Kukkude Island

Udupi: A fishing trip to the Kukkude Island near here proved fatal for two youngsters as they were electrocuted on Wednesday, August 23. Rakesh (22) and his friend Keerthan (21) had been to fish in the shallow waters of the island on Wednesday, where it is believed that one of them stepped on a fallen live electric wire. The other who rushed to the rescue was also met with the same fate. Sources said that Rakesh, who is a resident of the island, frequently went to the spot to fetch coconuts, hunt pigeons or fish. He was the sole breadwinner of his family. Keerthan was pursuing his final-year B.Com studies and was actively involved in collecting funds for the Kodagu victims.
