Udupi: The sand miners of Udupi district have decided to hold indefinite strike from Jan 28th in front the deputy commissioner’s office demanding that the sand extraction problem be solved and that priority of extracting sand should be given to the miners who have been extracting sand for several years ahead of the new contractors and miners.
The decision was taken on Friday at the preliminary meeting under the leadership of ‘All Associations fighting for sand mining committee’ at Bannanje Sri Narayanaguru Auditorium.
All political parties and associations will be invited for the strike. Until the demands are fulfilled, the strike will continue. We will join any political part which takes leadership of the strike. We need support from all political parties, informed the committee officials to ‘Udayavani’.
District administration responsible
MLA Raghupati Bhat said, “During the previous strike, the deputy commissioner had blamed the Central and state government. Now the union and the state government has cleared off all obstacles. Mentioning the central government, the state government has passed an order to the district administration on Jan 4th. But the DC has failed to take any action till now. Therefore this times strike s against the district administration,” he said.
