UAE Water Aid brings drinking water to over 3m million people

UPDATE: The humanitarian contributions to UAE Water Aid campaign have reached Dh76.450 million on its fourth day. The said amount is enough to buy fresh drinking water for 3.058 million people in developing countries or 61% of the 5 million people the campaign is targeting. The UAE Water Aid campaign has witnessed great reaction from public and private sectors in addition to businessmen and civil society organisations. The Water Aid Campaign was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice- President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan, to provide access to fresh drinking water for 5 million persons around the world who suffer from shortage of potable water. The donations on the fourth day of the campaign include Dh3 million from Dubai Municipality to provide clean drinking water for 120,000 people in the developing countries, Dh2 million from Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority to provide clean drinking water for 80,000 people, Dh1 million from Imdaad to provide clean drinking water for 40,000 people and Dh1 million from Community Development Authority. The amount collected can provide fresh drinking water for 2.778 million persons from developing countries; this number constitutes 57 per cent of the 5 million persons the campaign is targeting. The third day of the UAE Water Aid Campaign included Dh7 million from Economic Zones World, Dh2.5 million from Road and Transport Authority, Dh2 million from Dubai Aviation City Corporation, Dh2 million from Dubai Chamber, Dh0.5 million from Al Baraha Quran School and Dh0.2 million from an unknown benefactor. The UAE Water Aid campaign has received a broad welcome locally, regionally and internationally, confirming that the UAE is a country of giving and its prudent leadership is an example of generosity and bounteousness. Day 2 The UAE Suqia Water Aid initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,  on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan to provide clean water for five million people worldwide, on Sunday raised more than Dh60.250,000. The amount, donated by individual and corporate donors on the second day of UAE Suqia, is enough to buy clean water for around 1.07 million people in the targeted countries hit by water scarcity due to drought. On Saturday, the campaign raised Dh33.5 million, an amount enough to provide clean water for more than 1.3 million people. Sunday's top donors to the campaign include Investment Corporation of Dubai Dh6 million, followed by Nakheel, Wasl properties, Emirates Airline who donated Dh5 million each, Dubai's Ports Customs and Free Zone Corporation (Dh2 million), Union Co-op Dh1.25 million (to fund the digging of 50 water wells in developing countries), Sheikha Alya bint Khalifa Al Maktoum (AED1 million), Lulu Hyper Market (Dh1 million) and Dubai Land Department (Dh0.5 million). According to World Health Organisation (WHO), 3.4 million people, mostly children, die annually from water-related diseases.
