04:56PM Sun 5 May, 2019
UAE has officially confirmed that Ramadan 1440 will begin on Monday (May 6) - after the Ramadan crescent was sighted in UAE on Sunday morning.
Dubai Media Office confirmed on Sunday evening that May 6 (Monday) will be the first day of Ramadan.
According to a picture tweeted earlier by the local astronomy centre, the crescent was spotted in 'difficult' conditions using sophisticated imaging technology - from Al Ain's Jebel Hafeet.
However, an official confirmation for the beginning of Ramadan 2019 (1440) was awaited by the moon-sighting committee, which will convene today after sunset.
