Former prime minister and Janata Dal(Secular) national president HD Deve Gowda said on Saturday that the State government should transfer the jailed former chief minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalitha to Tamil Nadu, as keeping her in Karnataka was a burden on the State's exchequer. Speaking to the media, Gowda said the Karnataka government was unnecessarily bearing the financial burden to protect the neighbouring State's former chief minister. "Why are we taking upon ourselves the headache of housing Jayalalitha. Every day thousands of people from Tamil Nadu are flocking to Bangalore and protesting on the streets. To tackle all this, around 3,000 to 4,000 police personnel are being deployed in and around the central jail," he said. He said that since the verdict against Jayalalitha was already pronounced, the State's responsibility was over. "The rest of the matter is now with the judiciary; whether she goes on appeal or is granted bail, etc. My humble and sincere request is to ensure that Jayalalitha is transferred to Tamil Nadu," he said. -Deccan Herald
