Traffic banned on 10 dilapidated bridges in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, Aug 19: Following the recent collapse of the Kali bridge in Karwar, traffic has been prohibited on 10 bridges in Dakshina Kannada (DK). Motorists are facing significant inconvenience due to the sudden restrictions placed on these deteriorating bridges.

Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Public Works Department (PWD) have submitted a report to deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan after inspecting the bridges over the past 15 days. The report identified 10 bridges as hazardous for traffic, leading to either complete closure or restrictions on heavy vehicles.
On the Old Kulur Bridge, heavy vehicles, except buses, are banned starting August 19. Heavy vehicles are also prohibited on the Addoor bridge on the Suratkal-Kabaka state highway and the Parari-Ulaayibettu-Mallur main road. Additionally, vehicle movement is temporarily banned on the district main road leading to Deralakatte.

The bridge over the backwater area of Palimar village on the Damaskatte-Balkunje district main road is closed to heavy vehicles. The bridge connecting Devasya to Chennai on the Puttur-Panaje road is submerged due to recent heavy rains, leading to a ban on heavy vehicles. Vehicular movement is also restricted on the bridge between Paichaaru-Mundaje and Didupe on state highway 276, as well as the old bridge at Karnooru Kotigadde on Puttur taluk district main road.

Heavy vehicles are banned on the Ambadabettu bridge connecting Guripalla in Nada gram panchayat, Beltangady taluk. An alternate route is suggested via Ujire Janardhana Swamy temple entrance to Keltaje through Surya temple road.
