Mangaluru: Scores of people who had arrived at Panambur beach to enjoy in the sea water returned sadly fearing water pollution as the beach was populated by globules of oil on Saturday May 25. Apparently, black oil started accumulating along Panambur shoreline on Saturday evening and noticing the black oil along the beach, many tourists returned without enjoying the sea water. Normally, the beach is visited by a large number of tourists, however on Saturday, many revelers did not venture out into the water noticing the polluted sea water, informed Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project CEO Yathish Baikampady. The oil spill is suspected to be that of the machines which were used for dredging at the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT). A complaint in this connection has been made with the Pollution Control Board (PCB) and the officials have assured of taking necessary action, said Mr Baikampady. Source: Udayavani
