TMC continues crackdown on plastic use; seizes over 100 kg of plastics in second raid within ten days

Bhatkal 29 August 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Bhatkal Town Municipal Council (TMC) on Tuesday carried out another raid in several shops of the town, in a bid to strictly implement the ban on usage of plastics, that was implemented earlier this month.
During the raid, the TMC officials led by Chief Officer Venkatesh Navadu, and health office Smt. Sujia seized over 100 kg of polythene bags and other plastic items after raiding several shops in Town market, flower market, Bunder road and other places across the town.
The raid comes after not more than ten days of the first raid on August 19, when the same team had recovered over 50 kg of plastics including polythene bag.
Notedly, Bhatkal Tahsildar VN Bhadkar, earlier in the month had issued a notice to local traders to notify the usage of plastics and polythene bags from August 14.
Speaking to Bhatkallys.com TMC Chief Officer Venkatesh Navadu, warned the shop owners and traders against the use and sale of plastic items and polythene bag, while also adding that strict actions will be initiated against those violating the law.
