BENGALURU: The ten-day winter session of the Karnataka legislative Assembly starting Monday is going to be a hard-hitting affair with several critical issues coming up for discussion. Opposition parties are bracing up to put the government on the mat, particularly over the violence in the aftermath of Tipu Sultan Jayanti celebrations held on November 10 and the bribery scam involving social welfare minister H Anjaneya. "We will seek a CBI probe into the violence that resulted in the death of two persons at Madikeri recently and also demand a ban on Popular Front of India (PFI) and Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD), whose activists are reportedly involved in the violence,'' said opposition leader jagadish Shettar. BJP and JD (S) will jointly seek the scalp of Anjaneya after he was named in a bribery scandal during a sting operation by a TV channel. The Opposition is also expected to target the government on issues of recent rapes reported in Bengaluru and other centres besides farmers' suicides and unscheduled power cuts in the state. A bill seeking amendment to the Karnataka Panchayati Raj Act is also likely to be taken up during the session. -TOI
