Tipper Vehicle Rolls off Road and Damages Bank Premises

Bhatkal: A mud-laden tipper vehicle bearing no. KA 19 6112 and plying from Shirali went out of the driver's control and rolled off the road here in the early hours of Friday, May 18.
The vehicle rammed into the premises of Canara Bank's branch, damaging furniture, fixtures and computers. A window of the building came off the wall and the mud from the vehicle piled up inside the bank.
Since it happened in the early hours of the day, no staff was injured. The driver and cleaner of the vehicle too escaped unhurt.
At the spot of the accident, there is a fifteen-foot-deep gorge adjacent to the highway. There is no retaining wall nor any hazard warning. The public have demanded immediate attention to the problem.
The cleaner, Ganapati Ramachandra Naik of Bhatkal, has filed a complaint to the Bhatkal rural police station stating that the driver, Nagaraj Kanhaiya Naik, drove the vehicle speedingly and rashly and caused the mishap.
