Bhatkal 27 October 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Three months after implementing regulations of wearing helmet for the bikers in Bhatkal, local bikers have moved on from the regulation and are hardly bothered about the laws binding them to wear helmets while riding the bikes. The local police department has also eased its hold over the issue had has brought down the frequent vehicles checking it used to conduct when the rule was first implemented. PSI Basavaraj who was leading the implementation under the supervision of CPI KL Ganesh and Dy.SP Valentine D'Souza has also been transferred to Murudeshwar police station and PSI Kusumadhara has taken charge as the PSI  of Bhatkal. Interestingly, the number of vehicles checking came down drastically after locals protested against police for unorthodox ways of vehicles checking when the officials blocked roads and arrested a few youngsters for not possessing adequate documents while driving. Speaking to Bhatkallys.com Bhatkal Dy.SP Valeentine D'Souza said 'Actions have been taken on the motorists for driving without helmets and adequate documents, our efforts are on to prevent people from violating these laws we want people to co-operate with us". A few social workers raised the question while speaking to Bhatkallys.com as what have been stopping local bikers from wearing helmets as it only adds to their own safety and has no gains to the police department. A number of questions naturally arises as Why are we becoming so irresponsible? We are only complicating our own safety by violating these laws, the police doesn't gain anything or lose anything if we wear or don't wear helmets, why can't we understand the simple fact and start abiding the laws for our own good? How many more accidents and accidental deaths before we take a lesson from it for us and our loved ones? (Bhatkallys News Bureau)
