Bhatkal 30 June 2018: (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Bhatkal TMC (Town Muncipal Council) building which was attacked and damaged by mob took over two months to be repaired completely, after a shop owner identified as Ramachandra Naik immolated himself inside the premises of the building to mark his protest against the TMC decision to vacate its shops without valid bond papers, a decision which had then irked several tenants of the shops.
Protestors had then pelted stones and chanted slogans against local officials as they tried to break into the TMC office. Stone pelters also damaged the building facade as police officials remained on site.
After two months the building was repaired and was back to its normal view, the payment of repair works was cleared recently according to the reports.
When contacted, TMC Engineer Umesh informed Bhatkallys.com that it costed the body Rs. 2.10 lac to get the building repaired after the September 13 incident last year. Which means over Rs. 2 lac from the tax-payers money was used into rebuilding the TMC building which was damaged by an angry, intolerant mob on September 13 last year.
Cases were booked on over 50 people after the incident for rioting and other relevant sections of law, all of whom are out on bail now.
