Thieves break into house in Bhatkal, make away with gold worth Rs 9 lakh

Bhatkal: 01 January,26 (Bhatkallys News Bureau) Thieves allegedly broke into a house in Bhatkal and decamped with gold jewellery worth around Rs 9 lakh after taking advantage of the residents being away to attend a wedding in Mangaluru.
The burglary was reported from the house of newspaper distributor Francis D’Souza, located behind the Purvarga Church in Bhatkal. According to the complaint, the couple had locked their house and left for Mangaluru around 10 am on Tuesday. When they returned early on Wednesday morning, they found the front door lock broken.
On entering the house, they noticed that the cupboard in the bedroom had been forced open and household items were found scattered. A check revealed that gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 9 lakh, kept in the cupboard, was missing.
Following information about the theft, personnel from the Bhatkal Town Police Station visited the spot and conducted an inspection. A sniffer dog squad and fingerprint experts were also brought in from Karwar to assist in the investigation.
A case has been registered at the Bhatkal Town Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
