Tension grips Udupi town as miscreants prevent Muslim from entering Masjid

Udupi - 30 Dec 2011: A tense atmosphere prevailed in Kodavoor town of Udupi district on Friday after a group of miscreants belonging to a communal organisation disrupted the visit of Muslim tourists to a local masjid for prayers.

The miscreants had surrounded the Kalmath Jamia Masjid, at Pallijidda in Kodavoor to prevent a group of Muslim tourists from Gujarat.

According to local sources, as many as 20 tourists from Gujarat had come to Udupi to visit Malpe beach and other tourist spots in the coastal district.They had planned to offer Friday prayers at Kalmath Jamia Masjid.

Meanwhile, local leaders of Sangh Parviar have justified the act of miscreants alleging the tourists of being members of anti-social group.
Police rushed to the spot and dispersed the mob. Udupi Superintendent of Police Ravi Kumar after verifying the whereabouts of the tourists, asked them to leave the place in their bus, sources said.

It can be mentioned that the managing committee of this Masjid has been accusing a local group belonging to a communal organisation of becoming a hurdle in building a new structure for the Masjid.
