Kolkata: Ashna Khan, a ten-year-old girl from Kolkata, set a fine example of kindness by donating the entire amount received on her birthday to Islamia Hospital, Kolkata. The daughter of a state Waqf member, Ashna, who is currently in Class V at the prestigious Kolkata Pratt Memorial School, donated an amount of Rs 60,301 to the Secretary of Islamia Hospital, Sultan Ahmed, MP, at the hospital premises on the C R Avenue, Kolkata. Thanking her for her contribution, Ahmed said that Ashna had been among the first to respond to the hospital’s calls for public contributions towards renovating the age-old hospital. Talking about Ashna’s contribution, her father Afaquzzaman told TwoCircles.net that Ashna shares her birthday with Swami Vivekananda. He added that her act of humanity was inspired from a similar deed by her brother Rubaiyat Khan, who had donated all the money he had received on his 10th birthday to an orphanage run by the Missionaries of Charity. “Ashna was glad to help the Islamia Hospital. She wants to be a scientist in future. Ashna said that her parents always encouraged her to help the poor. She had seen a unit of Islamia Hospital at Park Circus on her way to school, and told her parents that she wanted to donate to the Islamia Hospital, which they gladly accepted. Afaquzzaman also said that as a long-time member of the West Bengal State Waqf board, he too had been involved in various social activities and was glad that his daughter was following in his footsteps.
