The Congress today released its list of star campaigners for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections. Among others on this list were Rashtriya Janata Dal's (RJD) Tejashwi Yadav, Samajwadi Party's (SP) Akhilesh Yadav and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar. Other big names on the list included former union ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad and Sushil Kumar Shinde.
Meanwhile, the Congress welcomed Karnataka BJP chief BS Yeddyurappa's move to contest against state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, should the latter fight from another seat in North Karnataka. At an event in Bengaluru, Congress general secretary in-charge in Karnataka KC Venugopal said, "There is a big demand from North Karnataka for CM Siddaramaiah to contest from there. I have been getting thousands of calls from workers. There are reports that Yeddyurappa will contest against him. We welcome his step and it will help the Congress win the state." Congress is yet to declare the names of candidates for five seats. The state leadership maintains that the decision, including whether the CM will contest from a second seat, will be taken by the party's central leadership in days to come.
