People wanting to book train tickets at the passenger reservation counter in Mangalore had to wait for an hour on Tuesday following a technical glitch on the main reservation server in Chennai. Commuters were further angered by the non-availability of information. Janardhana Shetty, who was at the counter at the Mangalore Central Station, said that no one was available to give any reasons for the closure of the counter and also, when tickets would be issued. Chief Public Relations Officer, Southern Railway, Chennai, D. Lakshmanan told The Hindu that the main server at Chennai, which caters to the Southern as well as South Western Railway, went down at around 10.30 a.m., thereby affecting reservation. Though power supply was restored immediately, the rebooting process of the system took about an hour before restoration of normal services, he said. Officials at the SWR headquarters in Hubli and the divisional office in Bangalore too confirmed that the process was affected for one hour in the morning. Train cancelled Meanwhile, the SR has cancelled Onam special trains between Thiruchchirapalli and Mangalore Junction due to poor patronage. -The Hindu
