TCS to host rural quiz in DK

MANGALURU: Tata Consultancy Services and the department of IT, BT, science and technology, government of Karnataka will organize the Rural IT Quiz programme across six states in India for school students from class VIII to XII. The Rural IT Quiz aims to enhance IT awareness and underlines the importance of technology among rural students, besides keeping them abreast of the latest developments in technology. The DK district-level competition will be held on September 23. The winners will be selected for zonal level. The zonal level quiz will be conducted at three locations viz: Dharwad on October 15, Mysuru on October 17 and Tumakuru on October 20. The Tumakuru zonal finals will be followed by the Karnataka State Finals in Tumakuru on October 20. School students from classes 8 to 12 can participate free of cost in the quiz contest. The quiz will be held in Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. The regional rounds of the quiz will be conducted in these states between September and November 2015. The national finals of Rural IT Quiz will be held in Bengaluru during November. V Manjula, principal secretary, department of IT, BT, science and technology, and NagarajIjari, VP and head TCS Bengaluru operations, said: "It is encouraging to see the large participation of students in the Rural IT Quiz programme across all the six states. By participating in the national-level programme, students in smaller towns can get a better exposure to the advances in technology." Students of schools/PU colleges in the city corporation limits are not eligible to participate in the quiz. All the state winners and runners-up will receive TCS education scholarship of Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000, respectively. The national winners will receive Rs 1 lakh and runners-up Rs 50,000, besides other prizes from TCS. -TOI
