Tanzeem organizes massive rally against highway relocation plan

Bhatkal - People turned out in large number protesting against relocation plan of present highway and demanded up-gradation of present highway into 4-lanes in its current position. The rally was organized by Tanzeem to show public support against by-passing of highway. It may be noted that some people for their personal gains trying to pressurize highway authority to by-pass the proposed 4-lane highway while majority of people are in favour of retaining the highway in its current position.

The rally was begun from Sultani Masjid at around 4:45 pm and after passing through several landmarks including Mohammed Ali Road, Marikatte, Old Bus Stand, Main Road, Shamsudding Circle, turned into a massive gathering in-front of the Assistant Commissioner's office. Thousands of people from both Hindus and Muslim communities participated in the rally and shouted slogans against the decision.

Addressing the gathering several speakers highlighted the benefits of maintaining the present highway in its position instead of going for by-pass They said, if the present highway is upgraded only 70 crores rupess is required whereas the relocation plan will cost 270 crores.

On this occasion Tanzeem General Secretary Mr SM Syed Parvez submitted a memorandum to the Assistant Commissioner, Dr Anuradha on behalf of people of Bhatkal. AC has accepted the memorandum and assured them to forward it to the district administration and the concerned officials of National Highway Authority of India.

On this occasion Mr Badrul Hassan Muallim, Mr Parvez Kashimji, Mr Rama Moger, Mr Inayathullah Shabandri, Mr Damodar Gardikar, representatives of Sports Centers and several other leaders were present.
