Tanzeem condemns police action at Jamiabad Road, calls bandh on Monday

Jan 09, 2015 | Rizwan Gangavaly | Bhatkallys News Bhatkal: In a bid to condemn the police action at Jamiabad Road Bhatkal, a press release was organized on Saturday after Asr prayers by Majlise Islah Wa Tanzeem at their office. Addressing the media persons, the organization's general secretary Altaf Kharoori said, "For a long time, investigative agencies have been used to target Bhatkal town especially Muslims here by their continued campaign of humiliation in the name of terror, while, Tanzeem has always exherted efforts to restore peace in the town and nearby areas. In the recent incident too, Tanzeem has termed the police action "irresponsible", have called for a bandh on Monday 12th January and have decided to take out a peaceful protest rally after Asr prayers." Terming the police action at Jamiabad Road as drama and a planned conspiracy, he said that the role performed by the police in the current incident raises serious doubts. We are ready to extend complete cooperation with the police and associated authorities in the legal action taken to curb terror activities but we are against conspiracies to defame Muslims and to frigthen them, he added. Answering the questions raised by media persons, Tanzeem's ex-Secretary Dr. Haneef Shabab said, "The police, judiciary and the associated agencies will carry out investigation on the detained men. If they have committed any crime they will be punished and they will be acquitted if not found guilty of any crime. We are not protesting this but we have objections against the police action at Jamiabad Road". He also slammed the local Kannada newspapers and said that some newspapers have exposed their bias by twisting the facts, in reality, the media should be a reflection of the truth. Providing details on the protest rally, general secretary said that a memorandum will also be given to CM through the Assistant Commissioner at this occasion wherein a demand will be made to carry out high-level investigation on the conspired raid against Muslims and a request will also be made to identify the brains behind the conspiracies and to strictly punish them. Along with that, a demand will also be made to take into confidence local media and local authorities during such crackdowns and emphasis will made to carry out such investigations in accordance with the law. - ARF
