Jeddah: Indian expatriates from the state of Tamil Nadu launched a blood donation campaign for Haj pilgrims recently. Jamal Gafoor of the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ), Jeddah region, said that over 250 expatriates showed up at the King Fahd Hospital in the city recently to donate blood meant to be utilized in emergencies for the Haj pilgrims in Makkah. “We collected 160 units of blood and there was a good response from the Tamil community toward the cause,” Gafoor said. He also thanked the King Fahd Hospital’s Blood Bank for their support. “We have been organizing the blood donation campaign in Jeddah for the last five years with the inspiration of the notion that ‘saving a life is akin to saving the whole of mankind’,” Gafoor added. The TNTJ has chapters in different parts of the Kingdom which are also conducting blood donation campaigns for Haj pilgrims with the support of local hospitals run by the Ministry of Health.   Arab News
