Bhatkal: 11 june,2025 (Bhatkallys News Bureau) In the wake of a potential landslide threat in the Bandar area of Bhatkal taluk, Tahsildar Nagendra Kulashetti visited the affected site on Tuesday and issued key instructions to officials after inspecting the situation on the ground.
The landslide has occurred in Gondra Keri of Talgod village under the Mavin Korve Gram Panchayat limits. Due to the landslide, a concrete retaining wall constructed along the roadside has collapsed, raising fears of further soil erosion from the hillside. According to reports, nearly half the hill has already slipped, and if heavy rains continue, there is a high possibility of a major landslide, posing a serious threat to the people using this road regularly — especially school and college-going students.
Adding to the concerns, several houses located just below the affected road face the risk of being damaged in case of a large landslide. Officials said that these families should consider temporarily shifting to government relief centres or relatives’ homes until the danger passes.
Tahsildar Kulashetti informed that a proposal of Rs 25 lakh has been prepared for the reconstruction of the barrier wall. The work will begin as soon as the necessary funds are sanctioned. Until then, people using the road have been advised to exercise caution.
Another worrying aspect of the situation is that a school building constructed by cutting into the hillside is also at risk. There is a danger that loose rocks and soil from the upper section of the hill may tumble down towards the school during intense rains. Local residents have appealed to the gram panchayat and concerned departments to take immediate preventive measures before any untoward incident occurs.
Officials and local representatives, including Mavin Korve Gram Panchayat PDO Chandrashekhar Itagi, Panchayat President Shrinivas, Devi Das Naik, and Rama Gonda, were present during the inspection.
