Swachh Mangaluru Mission completes successful 27th Sunday cleanliness work

MANGALURU: Ramakrishna Mission carried out the 27th Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan on P M Rao Road - G H S Road - Sharavu Temple area on the Sunday. Dr Subramanya Padyana, dean, Alva's Ayurvedic Medical College, Moodbidri and Ramesh Mallya, well-wisher of the ashrama flagged off drive in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, president, Ramakrishna Math. MRPL, principal patron of the event sponsored the drive. About 120 volunteers, devotees and well-wishers of the Mission, NSS students and staff of Alvas' Ayurvedic Medical College, Moodbidri, and students of Ganapathi College took part in the abhiyan. Volunteers were divided into four groups under the guidance of Ganesh Karnik, MLC. A team under Dr Sumanth Shenoy cleaned Sharavu Temple premises. Second team led by Dr Aditya Bhat cleaned P M Rao Road. Other two teams led by MLC cleaned GHS Road. Lots of garbage and the grass had piled up on the road leading from K S Rao Road to Sharavu Temple. Weeds were encroaching on the road too thus creating nuisance to pedestrians and motorists. This was even marring the beauty of the city. An earth excavator machined was pressed in to service to remove this under the guidance of Dilraj Alva. Old railing on G H S Road was repainted giving it a new look. Volunteers attended to several other small works like clearing weeds using grass cutting machine, removing posters from compound walls, clearing construction debris from the footpaths, clearing sand accumulated on the roads thus helping in public utility. Worn out and faded out direction boards were repainted and were given a face lift helping newcomers in PM Rao Road and GHS Road. Many eminent persons actively took part in the cleanliness drive. -TOI
